Physicians earn $16.7 million in pay-for-performance program
Group practices participating in Medicare’s pay-for-performance demonstration for physicians earned $16.7 million in incentive payments in the second year of the program, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced today. The demonstration rewards physicians for improving health outcomes and coordinating the health care needs of Medicare patients with congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease and diabetes. All 10 participating physician groups achieved benchmark performance on at least 25 of the 27 quality markers. The groups are: Billings (MT) Clinic; Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic, Bedford, NH; The Everett (WA) Clinic; Forsyth Medical Group, Winston-Salem, NC; Geisinger Clinic, Danville, PA; Marshfield (WI) Clinic; Middlesex Health System, Middletown, CT; Park Nicollet Health Services, St. Louis Park, MN; St. John’s Health System, Springfield, MO; and University of Michigan Faculty Group Practice, Ann Arbor, MI. The demonstration will run through March 2009.
